Citation Management with Refworks Online

Citation management tools (also called reference managers) are used for organizing, managing, and formatting citations. In this hour-long session, your librarian instructor will be showcasing RefWorks.

Prerequisites: prior to the session, please create a free RefWorks account, following the instructions found within our RefWorks library guide. This will allow you to follow along while the librarian is demonstrating RefWorks.

RefWorks allows users to manage references, create bibliographies, and work collaboratively with others. It helps you to insert references into your text as well as generate a reference list at the end of your paper, using one of 7k different citation styles available through this web-based tool. RefWorks can be used in both Word and Google Docs.

By the end of this session, learners will be able to:

  • Understand what RefWorks is and why it's useful for effective reference management.
  • Discover various methods to import references from websites, databases, and other sources into your RefWorks library.
  • Explore how to create collections and organize your references for easy retrieval.
  • Master RefWorks’ citation and bibliography tools to effortlessly cite sources in your research papers.
  • Learn advanced features such as collaboration, synchronization, and integration with word processors.
